File: Precinct Centre

Scope and Content

The Precinct Centre is a complex of University offices, shops and student accommodation at the northern end of campus. It was a major component of the University's Education Precinct project and opened in the 1960s. The file deals with mostly routine administrative matters including commercial lettings; closure of a public library at the Centre in 1980; the operation of the "Bridge" restaurant; and possible provision of sports facilities. The file also includes some more general "Precinct" project business including the continuing operation of the Joint Planning Committee for the Precinct; the future of the Grosvenor cinema on Oxford Road (1977) and the naming of the Waterloo Place buildings.
