Scope and Content

Ashburne Hall is the oldest University of Manchester hall of residence for women and the oldest in continuous ownership by the University. Mainly routine administrative matters, including an "An introduction to student life in Manchester" course (1978), the Elizabeth Howard travel scholarships, new accommodation (1993), administration of Hall bar, and a sustained discussion of the negative effects on hall life of an increased proportion of first year students to meet a University commitment.
