The fellowships were endowed by Professor Harold Hallsworth to promote research in economics, government and administration. Hallsworth had formerly taught at Manchester, before moving to King's College, Newcastle.
Most of the file concerns arrangements for establishing and administering the Fund, in which Hallsworth played a leading role (on his death he was succeeded by his executor, Professor Stanley Dennison). Some of Hallsworth's funds were invested, at his suggestion, infarms in Cambridgeshire, and there is correspondence relating to these properties. There is also some correspondence with applicants and holders of the fellowships.
