File: Allen Hall

Scope and Content

Allen Hall was recognized as a hall of residence by the University in 1961 (it was named after Cardinal William Allen). The Hall traditionally enjoyed close relation with the Roman Catholic diocese of Salford (the bishop of Salford was chair of the board of governors). Following financial problems, the Hall was leased to the University in 1977, and most of the material in the file concerns the Hall's financial position and the circumstances of its transfer to the University. The Hall closed in 2012 and the site was subsequently sold for redevelopment.
