Papers relating to arrangements made for foreign scholars at the University. Most of the material relates to exiled German scholars, who applied for or were appointed to academic positions in the 1930s. There is also a small amount of material relating to the war and post-war years (the latter being short-term and voluntary residences at the University). There is correspondence relating to the conditions of employment of specific individuals: R. Peierls (physics); Martin Weinbaum (history); Reinhold Baer (mathematics); David Katz (psychology); Adolf Lowe (economics); Hans Heilbronn (mathematics); Arthur Lasnitzki (medicine); R Rosenthal (Semitic studies); and Carl Prausnitz (medicine). There is also correspondence between the University and the Academic Assistance Council which gave financial grants to exiled scholars.
