Scope and Content

File relating to the administration of the Faculty of Medicine, mostly correspondence between the vice-chancellor and the dean of the faculty of medicine. Subjects covered include: clinical academic salaries, honorary consultant appointments for Medical School staff, appointments to promotional chairs, student numbers, including correspondence with the UGC about planned expansions in light of the Royal Commission on Medical Education (1966).

The file includes several interesting memoranda including a paper by G.A.G. Mitchell (professor of anatomy), "Proposed alterations in the teaching of anatomy" (1953), and papers by the dean of faculty, "Revision of the Medical Curriculum" (1960), "Clinical Facilities required for teaching medical students" (1971), "Medical Computing Unit" (1973), and "Faculty Development Plans 1976-1982" (1976). The building of the new medical school, a major issue for the Faculty in this period, is not covered extensively in this file.
