Papers relating to the University's 1919 Appeal Fund. The Appeal had been planned in 1914, but was delayed by the War. In the post-war period, new departmental buildings, halls of residence and extra staff were required to deal with a major increase in student numbers. The University also planned a major expansion of postgraduate teaching, extra-mural activities, and hoped to put the College of Technology on a much sounder financial footing. The Appeal attempted to raise the sum of £500,000 to meet these needs.
This file of papers contains printed material and newspaper cuttings relating to the Appeal, along with details of the allocation of funds received; there is also material relating to the College of Technology's appeal and to plans to develop a cotton research facility within the University.
