Scope and Content

Papers concerning arrangements for teaching Chinese at the University. Part of the file deals with the situation following the death of Professor E. H. Parker in 1926, and includes material on the disposition of Parker's library. The other section of the file deals with briefly with the employment of E.W. Mead as reader. Mead died in 1941, when the readership was suspended. In the post-war period the University made unsuccessful attempt to fill the post.
