File: Files Inquiry

Scope and Content

The issue of student files had been a major part of student protest in the late 1960s, with allegations that the University kept records about the political activities of individual students. The inquiry was established in the aftermath of the Whitworth Hall sit-in. The University, AUT and Student's Union appointed members to this inquiry, which investigated these claims and made recommendations on staff and student access to information kept by the University about them. The file includes a copy of the report of the inquiry, as well as correspondence with other universities on their policies for keeping and allowing access to student files.
