Scope and Content

Correspondence between the vice-chancellor and officials of the Men's Student Union (separate students' unions existed for men and women at the University until the 1960s; the School of Technology had a separate union). The file contains papers on regulations for social events at the Union (including during wartime), the provision of a students' bar (1938), mixed social events, a loan fund established by the Union to assist needy students, extensions to the Union buildings in the mid-1930s, student involvement in ARP and military training during wartime, the creation of a University Endowment Fund (1932), Union subscriptions, visits of delegations of foreign students to the Union, and various incidents of student misbehavior at social events.
