File: Hester Adrian Research Centre

Scope and Content

The Hester Adrian Research Centre was established in 1966 to promote research into the education of the mentally handicapped. It was supervised by an Advisory Committee, and independent of any Faculty. Subjects covered in the present file include possible Social Science Research Council designation as a research centre for special education; the Centre's response to the Warnock report on special educational needs (1978); a proposed University/local authority child guidance clinic, and the cessation of Sembal Trust grants in 1977 (which had previously supported the Centre). The file also includes an internal paper by Professor Peter Mittler on the future of the Centre (1975).
