File: Ludwig Mond lectures

Scope and Content

Correspondence relating to arrangements for the Ludwig Mond lectures. The lectures were instituted in 1923 under a bequest made to the University by Mrs. Frederike Mond in memory of her husband, Ludwig Mond. The lectures were delivered annually by two or three guest lecturers on a wide range of topics, including scientific subjects, arts and public affairs. During the period covered by this file lecturers included Alexander Todd, Patrick Blackett, Michael Oakeshott, Kenneth Clark Leslie Scarman, Frederick Dainton, Iris Murdoch and Fred Hoyle. The correspondence includes invitations to prospective lecturers, and arrangements for the lecturers. A committee of Senate oversaw administration of the Lectures. Lists of Mond lecturers can be found in the annual Calendars.
