Scope and Content

Correspondence relating to arrangements for the Ludwig Mond lectures. The lectures were instituted in 1923 under a bequest made to the University by Mrs. Frederike Mond in memory of her husband, Ludwig Mond. The lectures were delivered annually by two or three guest lecturers on a wide range of topics, including scientific subjects, arts and public affairs. The correspondence includes invitations to prospective lecturers, arrangements concerning the delivery of the lecturers. Among those turning down invitations to lecture were Thomas Mann, T. S. Eliot, E.M. Forster and Reinhold Niebuhr. Lists of Mond lecturers can be found in the annual Calendars.
