Scope and Content

Broomcroft Hall was the former residence of Lord (Ernest) Simon of Wythenshawe and his wife, Lady (Shena) Simon, located in Didsbury, south Manchester. In the 1940s Simon expressed his intention to leave his residence in trust for the University's use after his death. Following Lord Simon's death in 1960, the Hall became a residence for Simon Research Fellows and other visiting scholars. It is now the official residence of the University's President and Vice-Chancellor. The file deals with the legal process of transfer of the Hall, accommodation arrangements for the Simon fellows and the death of Lady Simon (who continued to live in the Hall following her husband's death) and the appointment of her son, Brian Simon, as a trustees
