Papers relating to the department of social and preventive medicine [sometimes called social medicine or community medicine]. The Department was established in 1947 under Professor Andrew Topping; he was succeeded by Fraser Brockington in 1951. The department undertook teaching and research in public health matters, including epidemiology, occupational health, health education, community health, environmental hygiene, mental health and medical sociology. The department was responsible for the diploma in public health.
