Papers concerning the election of a new chancellor of the University following the death of Lord Crawford in 1940. In the event, the election was postponed until 1944 because of the war situation, when Lord Woolton became chancellor. The papers discuss possible candidates for the post in 1940, and copy letter from Stopford to Lord Derby, 6 June 1944, confirming the nomination of Woolton.
