Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo. The writer, an exile, about to open Law and French Language courses in London, asks for letters of introduction to Richard Cobden (an English Radical) and any other leading figures. On the back of the page, in Hugo' s hand, are the words "Duché exprès".

Written at Wimbledon, London.

Duché was a Radical Republican, deputy of the Rhône (1849-1851), who went into exile in London, where he died.
