Letter from Hugo to Daniel-François-Esprit Auber (1782-1871)

Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Auber recommending an actress Mlle Laborde who is anxious to sing some of Auber's music. Hugo indicates that if Auber opens to her the door of the Conservatoire, she would be able to open the doors of the theatre.

Auber was a famous French musician, he was appointed director of the Conservatoire de Paris in 1842 until his death during the Commune.
