Letter from Antoine Adolphe Hubert (1827-) to Hugo

Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo from an editor asking if he might have the proofs of Les Misérables for publication in his Courrier du Brésil, a small weekly paper for French exiles. He adds that V. Frond, who has made the same request for the Diario de Janeiro, hopes to call on the "exile of Guernesey" in a month's time when he is visiting Europe.

Written at Rio de Janeiro.

Hubert was a French exile in Brazil, editor of Le Courrier du Brésil between 1854 and 1862. He then came back to the UK and took part in the creation of the First Workingmen's Association. The reason behind his departure to Brazil is not known.
