Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo telling him that he may inform Mr. Luthereau that he may have a replica of a picture on a sacred subject for 500 francs.

Marked 'r' (répondu) in Hugo's hand.

Cailleux was an early friend of Hugo. He wrote with Charles Nodier and the Baron Taylor a very famous Voyages pittoresques et romantiques dans l'ancienne France (1825). Under the July Monarchy, he became director of the Louvre Museum and General Director of Fine Arts. Cf. his letters to Hugo's wife (VMH/2/3/1-2).
