Letter from Louis Edmé Jean Baptiste Vinçard, aka Vinçard père, (1796-18?) to Hugo

Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo. The writer has invented a method of type-setting using ligatures i.e. high frequency groups of characters. The Ministère de l'Intérieur having advised him to give the public the benefit of his invention as soon as possible, he submits the matter to Hugo's judgment.

Vinçard was a French publicist, composer and Saint-Simonian propagandist. He also directed the journal La Ruche populaire, one of the first working-class newspapers.
