Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo recommending a young Russian about to visit France. Decampe relates how he himself came to Russia in 1827 and introduced the poems of Hugo, Lamartine and Soumet with such success in literary soirees in Moscow that he is now Professor of French Literature at the Imperial University. He recalls gratefully Hugo's and Soumet' s early kindnesses.

Decampe was a French writer from Toulouse. He mentions in his letter that he is a professor of French literature at the Imperial University of Moscow.
