Letter from Louisa Siéfert (1845-1877) to Hugo

Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo saying that the writer's publisher Lemerre wants her to submit a volume of comedies for an Academy prize and told her to seek Hugo's advice. Her health, she adds, compels her to winter in the South and return to Paris - and Hugo - only if it improves.

Written at Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or, Rhône.

Marked 'r' (répondu) in Hugo's hand, followed by the words "I shall not be in Paris this winter".

Siéfert was a French poetess, friend of Hugo, who died of tuberculosis at the age of 32.
