Letter from Edouard Poublon to Hugo

Scope and Content

Autograph letter to Hugo from an Englishman who claims to have served Republicanism since 1848 in France and Sicily and now wishes to join Garibaldi. He asks Hugo (a) to obtain a grant for him from the Italian Committee in London and (b) to place a notice in the Jersey papers on his behalf requesting subscriptions from "all supporters of Italian independence". Poublon, adds, in the margin of his letter, that he has written a 3-acts verse comedy in French which he would like Hugo to see.
