Papers accumulated by Sir William Fletcher Shaw while researching Charles Clay for his presidential address to Manchester Medical Society in 1951. Fletcher Shaw intended to write a book based on this research, which was too extensive to be covered by the address, but the book was never completed. The papers consist of holograph notes by Fletcher Shaw, taken from various sources, about Clay's life and medical achievements. There are also letters from various medical institutions replying to enquiries from Fletcher Shaw.
