Almond was born in Manchester on 5 February 1899 and was educated at Manchester Grammar School. In 1935, after ten years in general practice in Manchester, Almond began two years of postgraduate work at the London Hospital and the National Heart Hospital. In 1939 he became Hon assistant physician at Salford Royal Hospital until 1945. He was also consultant physician at Manchester Jewish Hospital, Leigh Infirmary and Altrincham General Hospital. He was a president of the Manchester Medico-Ethical Society. He was also a member of the Manchester Medico-Legal Society and a fellow of Manchester Medical Society . He died on 30 July 1965.
