Coope studied medicine at the University of Manchester and qualified in 1913; he took the diploma in public health in 1918. Coope was a medical consultant to the Cooperative Wholesale Society and chairman of the Ministry of Pensions Medical Board.Coope was a member of Manchester Medical Society and Manchester Medico-Ethical Association.
