Godson, the son of Alfred Godson, studied medicine at Cambridge and Guy's Hospital. Godson held junior positions at East London Hospital for Children, Shadwell, and the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, before working as resident obstetrician at Guy's Hospital. Godson later took over his father's general practice in Cheadle and was medical officer of health for Cheadle and medical officer and public vaccinator for Cheadle District of Stockport Union. He died on 2 May 1936.
