Letter from Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne to Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire

Scope and Content

Lord Lansdowne writes concerning the amendments to the English Land Bill and the "killing" of the Scotch Land Bill. He further writes of the compromise concerning the evicted tenants and confirms that "Crewe has promised to give way as to the planters". He further writes that the Irish landlords "detest Ashbourne" and regard him [Landsdowne] as "somewhat of a traitor". He also writes of the "autumn campaign" which is currently underway.
