Lord Spencer writes that he is returning Powercourt's letters. He writes that like SCC, he cannot comprehand what occurred about the Standard and Pall Mall statements. He writes that he has visited Hawarden and Gladstone has told him he had "no scheme" concerning Irish Home Rule instead it was a "trial of ideas and not a cut and dried scheme". He further writes inviting SCC to visit him as he "has a great variety of correspondence to show you". Sent from: Althorp, Northampton.
