SCC writes to his father that their return journey is delayed because the ship they were to sail on was said to be uncomfortable. He writes that there may be an early debate on America but it is a good decision he will most likely not attend as he supports the Southerners which would not suit his constituents. He reports that it would be idiotic to support Lincoln and the emancipation proclamation. He writes that some seem to think a change of policy might conciliate the south but SCC does not think that is possible whilst the fighting continues. He congratulates his sister, Lady Louisa Cavendish, on her marriage. Sent from: New York, date stamped: 17 Feb.
