SCC writes to the Queen regarding a telegram he has received from her concerning an intelligence report from Afghanistan. He reports that troops will continue to withdraw from Kandahar as it was always expected there would be a battle between Ayub and Abdur Rahman. He reports that they want Abdur Rahman to win but have enough troops elsewhere in the country to maintain peace. There is an endorsement written in black ink on the back of the letter which reads, "24 May 1881. Copy letter to Queen. Mr. Thomson's telegram from Kheran about Ayub Khan, Enclosure. telegram from Queen." CS8/1103 is an enclosure to this letter. Sent from: London, date stamped, 23 May.
