He writes that Queen Victoria is pleased with SCC's response to her previous letter and requests that SCC checks the details of reports before allowing them to be published in the press. She writes that any candidates to be appointed to positions in India refrain from expressing their policy ideas in public. There is an endorsement written in black ink on this letter which reads "11th August 1881. Sir H. Ponsonby Queen thanks for L.d H's letter of 9th." Sent from: Osborne, date stamped, 11 Aug.
