Luxton was educated at Bradford Grammar School and the University of Manchester, where he won a number of prizes. After qualifying, Luxton held resident appointments at Hope Hospital, Salford, before being appointed demonstrator in anatomy at the University of Manchester in 1931. In 1932 he became resident obstetrical officer at Hope Hospital, and from 1934 was resident medical officer and deputy medical superintendent to Crumpsall Hospital Manchester, later becoming consultant physician. Luxton was appointed chief assistant to the medical unit at MRI in 1936, a position he held until 1940. Luxton was assistant consultant physician to St Mary's Hospital Manchester and visiting physician to Oldham Royal Infirmary. He was appointed honorary physician to Christie Hospital Manchester in 1938, and was chairman of the Medical Board in 1944. Luxton later became honorary lecturer in medicine at the University of Manchester. Luxton was a member of MMS and was honorary secretary and treasurer to the Manchester Pathological Society. Luxton died on 17 July 1984.
