David Lowson, MD, was house surgeon at Pendlebury Children's Hospital and resident surgeon at Huddersfield Infirmary before starting in general practice in Huddersfield. In 1882 Lowson settled in Hull where he was surgeon to the Dispensary and to Hull Hospital for Diseases of Women. Lowson was honorary surgeon at Hull Royal Infirmary from 1898 until his death after blood poisoning in 1907. Lowson was a brilliant operator and performed the first successful pneumonectomy for early phthisis in 1893.
