The eldest son of Manchester merchant Gama[liel] Lloyd, George Lloyd was baptised on 1 August 1708. He graduated MD from Queen's College Cambridge and in 1737 was elected fellow of the Royal Society. Lloyd was a member of Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society and published his observations of rainfall 1778-1781. Lloyd was on intimate terms with the Manchester poet Byrom and possibly shared his Jacobite sentiments. He was at the first board meeting of the Manchester Infirmary in 1752 and was appointed a trustee in 1753. He was also a feoffee of Chethams Hospital in 1741. Lloyd removed to Yorkshire and died in 1783, was buried in Swillington, Yorkshire. He had a son John Lloyd (1735-1777) who was also FRS and a son George Lloyd (1749-1804), a barrister.
