Charles Heywood was educated at Cambridge University. He was a house surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital, before moving to St Thomas's Hospital, London. He as a medical officer at the Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury. where he was later a consultant. He was a consultant physician at SRH. He published several papers on rickets, pleural effusions and tuberculin. He was a member of Manchester Medical Society, Manchester Pathological Society (president 1913-4) ad Manchester Clinical Society.
