Lord Salisbury writes that there is no objection to Henry James announcing his retirement from the House but that he "had better" obtain the Queen's approval for his peerage before any public announcements are made. He also writes that [Lord] Landsdowne has accepted the War Office position. He further writes as to other positions that have been offered including the Home Office, Presidency of the Board of Trade, Ireland and India. He finally writes with suggestions relating to offering the Post Office to Courtenay, the Board of Works to Collings and asks SCC's advice on other under-secretary positions. [there is a possibility that this is the second page of a letter and that the first page is missing]. Letter is undated and is written on Devonshire House letterheaded paper.
