Scope and Content

SCC writes to Prince Arthur regarding the proposed Command of a Division in India. He writes John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley thinks that in the order of precedence Prince Arthur will only be below the Viceroy and perhaps the Governors of Madrass and Bombay. He reports theat Princess Louise, Duchess of Connaught of Strathearn will only be below the Viceroy's wife. He writes that precedence is not currently a pressing matter for George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon but they will have an answer soon to confirm precedence. There is an endorsement written in black ink which reads, "27th April '83. Copy of lr. to H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught. Precedence in India. (See Lord Kimberley's letter of 27/4/83).
