Scope and Content

Granville writes to SCC regarding embassy appointments. He reports that Chichester Parkinson-Fortescue, 1st Baron Carlingford would be good for Berlin or Constantinopole but he does not think he would accept. He writes that he thought SCC had been told by William Ewart Gladstone about Frederick Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood, 1st Earl of Dufferin and Ava's appointment [as Viceroy of India]. Hew rites that he would have liked Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne for the ambassadorship in Berlin but he would not have accepted.
