Letter from William Ewart Gladstone to Spencer Compton Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington

Scope and Content

Gladstone writes asking SCC to read the communications he has received from Jenkinson and to send it on to [Lord] Granville under a "seal of secrecy", asking him to forward it on to Spencer. He writes that as far as he can learn, Salisbury and Carnarvon are "rather in with Randolph" [Churchill]. He writes that he is glad the Cabinet remain where they are and further writes concerning a vote of confidence and Irish Home Rule. Sent from: Hawarden Castle, Chester.
