Ponsonby writes to SCC regarding the proposed expedition to Khartoum to relieve General Charles Gordon. He writes that Queen Victoria wishes to know if Garnet Wolseley, 1st Baron will be able to reach Khartoum in 40 days from 4 November which was when they last heard from Gordon.
