File: Council Working Party on the Draft Statute

Scope and Content

Papers relating to the impact of the Model Statute of the University Commissioners. The Commissioners were appointed after the 1988 Education Act to oversee arrangements relating to academic and academic-related appointments in UK universities. They devised a Model Statute intended to regulate the grounds for dismissal and redundancy of staff which would protect academic freedom. Universities were required to comply with the Model Statute in their own statutes. The University established a Council working party in 1991 to investigate the matter, and to recommend changes in line with the Statute.
