The Baer Fund was composed from funds raised by Help the Aged through its Sybil Thorndike Appeal for Research on Joint Disease and the Douglas Baer golf tournaments (which were held in the Manchester area). The funds were used by the University to support research into old age and gerontology. The file includes various discussions on use of these funds, including funding a chair in osteopathology (a proposal which was not taken forward), and the subsequent disbursement of funds for other purposes.
