The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was based at the University Hospital of South Manchester, Withington site, and latterly at Hope Hospital, Salford. The file includes several letters and memoranda from Sir Harry Platt (1886-1986), emeritus professor of orthopaedic surgery, concerning the department and the Medical School, as well as Platt's own centenary birthday in 1986.
