File: Treasurer, Sir Ernest Simon

Scope and Content

Correspondence between Moberly and Stopford, and Sir Ernest Simon, treasurer of the University (1934-1941). Among subjects covered are Simon's views on the financial development of the University in connection with its wider ambitions, relations with the City Council and the College of Technology, the financial position of student societies, and the 1937 Appeal. In 1941 Simon became chairman of Council in succession to Sir Christopher Needham. The file also contains a small body of papers relating to research facilities, tutorial arrangements and building needs, dated 1939-1943, which appear to relate to general enquiries into the work of the University, a subject in which Simon took a keen interest.
