In 1985, the University, UMIST and MBS discussed setting up the Manchester Partnership to promote university-business co-operation, particularly for technology transfer. The file includes papers by Michael Burden (professor of civil engineering, UMIST) and Michael Gibbons (Department of Science and Technology Policy, VUM) offering differing perspectives on the proposal. It is not known if the proposal was taken forward.
