During the 1970s and 1980s the Wolfson Foundation supported several University research projects, which were concerned with industrial applications of research work. The Paper Packaging Project run by the Department of Pharmacy investigated paper-based web materials as sterile packaging for sterile medical equipment, These were considered very useful in preventing microbial penetration. The project was awarded £145,000 over three years.
