File: Manchester Business School

Scope and Content

Much of the file relates to discussions over the constitutional status of the School. This followed lobbying by the School for greater legal and financial autonomy from the University (effectively to become a separate institution). In July 1990, the University reaffirmed its commitment to existing constitutional relationships, but sought to clarify these through a revised Ordinance (originally Ordinance XXI; the revised Ordinance to MBS was IX). It established a School Board which reported to the University Council, and confirmed the constitutional status of the role of Director of the School.
