Drinking Fountain, Craig y Don

Scope and Content

In this photograph beside the fountain is a slab of inscribed stone. On this is written, 'Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst' - Fourth John 13:14:V. The fountain was made by the firm Boulton's of Cheltenham, established in the 1830s. Its first site was in the gardens of the North Western Hotel in 1875. Mr. Clegram, who presented the fountain to the town, came from Gloucestershire. In the photograph the fountain is lying in four sections in the Aberconwy Gardens of Queen's Road.

In early 1988 the fountain was moved to Craig y Don Park where it was rebuilt on 14 May 1988.
